Red Lady

Red Lady. Oil. 20 x 24

I painted this oil portrait a few weeks ago when I was red with anger when Texas Governor Abbott signed into law one of the nation’s strictest abortion measures.

I am not pro-abortion and would never recommend anyone to have an abortion. But I am for women’s right to choose what they feel is right for them. Even if I don’t agree or consider this action a sin.

This decision took us back to the Post-Impressionist, late 19th century, way before women had the right to vote.

I found inspiration in an 1891 painting by French artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec titled Woman with Gloves, which depicts the “ideal” woman of the times. Sometimes I feel most men would love to have us sit quietly and politely asking for everything. Soft-spoken women whose opinions do not matter.

My Red Lady is holding a document titled 410 US 113 or Roe v Wade (1973).

The source of my inspiration. Woman with Gloves by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec from 1891.
